The HTC Sensation, Sensation XE and Sensation XL are all to receive an upgrade to the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich by the end of March, according to an update on HTC’s British Facebook page.
Taiwan-based company HTC are the first smartphone manufacturer to officially announce that they will be upgrading their devices from the current Android 2.3 Gingerbread to the hotly anticipated new Android 4.0 operating system.
After the updates to these HTC devices have gone live, users can expect further smartphones to get the same upgrade, including the HTC Incredible S, HTC Desire S, HTC Desire HD, HTC Amaze 4G, HTC Evo 3D and HTC Rezound.
Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich platform has been causing waves since it was officially announced last year, thanks to its revolutionary user interface.
In addition, it allows for a host of new features, including the “Android Beam” which will allow users to share content with compatible phones simply by touching their backs to one another.
The Ice Cream Sandwich OS is also due to arrive shortly on Samsung’s high-end Galaxy S II and Galaxy Hybrid smartphones.
